GoFundMe Fee Calculator 2026: $1K–$50K

Crowdfunding Fees Guide
How much does GoFundMe take? The answer depends on both the total raised and how many individual donations make up that total.

For U.S. individual and business fundraisers, GoFundMe currently charges 2.9% + $0.30 per donation. There is no fee to start or manage a fundraiser, and donor tips to GoFundMe are optional. Because of the fixed 30-cent charge on every donation, two campaigns that raise the same amount can pay slightly different total fees if one campaign receives many more small donations.

Quick formula: GoFundMe transaction fees ≈ 2.9% of the amount raised + $0.30 × number of donations.

The examples below assume an average donation of $50. Actual fees vary with donation size, country, payment method, currency conversion, and fundraiser type.

$20,000400$700$19,300
$50,0001,000$1,750$48,250

How Much Does GoFundMe Take From $10,000?

If a $10,000 fundraiser receives 200 donations averaging $50, the percentage portion is $290 and the fixed per-donation charges total $60. That produces an estimated transaction-fee total of $350, leaving about $9,650.

How Much Does GoFundMe Take From $20,000?

Using the same $50 average donation, a $20,000 campaign would receive roughly 400 donations. The percentage component is $580 and the fixed fees total $120, for an estimated $700 in transaction fees and about $19,300 delivered to the fundraiser.

Why Donation Size Changes the Effective Percentage

The 2.9% portion scales with the amount donated, but the additional 30 cents applies to every donation. That makes the effective percentage slightly higher when a campaign receives many small gifts. A $50 U.S. donation, for example, has a $1.75 transaction fee under GoFundMe’s published example.

Does GoFundMe Charge a Platform Fee?

GoFundMe says there is no fee to start or manage a U.S. individual fundraiser. Its standard transaction fee is deducted automatically from each donation. Donors can also choose to leave an optional contribution to GoFundMe; that optional contribution is not required.

What About Recurring Donations?

GoFundMe’s help center says donors who choose recurring donations pay an additional 5% recurring-donation fee per donation. That recurring fee is paid by the donor rather than deducted from the organizer’s proceeds.

Compare Before You Launch

Platform rules vary significantly. Kickstarter, for example, uses an all-or-nothing model and charges its platform fee only when a project is successfully funded. See our GoFundMe vs. Kickstarter fee comparison, and read our main 2026 GoFundMe fee guide.
